Electric Vehicles – Accessible charging: Update

Following the Access Association’ response to the PAS1899:2022 public consultation in May this year, the Association was invited to a meeting with the author to discuss the responses to the published draft and ‘some differences in research outputs for heights of charge point components’.  Attending the 07 July meeting with Peter Weldon (PAS Author) on behalf of the Association were members: Jane Simpson, Caroline Lewis, James Taylor and Steve Hudson.  Also in attendance were Kier Haines (Designability) and Heidi Lough (Office for Zero Emission Vehicles).  A number of new draft diagrams developed by Designability for the PAS were provided prior to the meeting and used as the basis for discussion.  The draft diagrams discussed included:

• Socket and Holster Height
• Touch and Visual Interface location and tilt
• Space around chargepoint and position of protection
• Parking provision for different layouts and orientation
• Wheel stops to avoid vehicle over-run adjacent pedestrian route /chargepoint
