Lewis Silkin reports the government’s proposals to change discrimination law include the idea of extending equal pay claims to cover ethnicity and disability.  This is likely to make employment claims much more complex and costly, and much slower to resolve.

Back in February 2024, Labour revealed plans to make some significant reforms to discrimination law.  It pledged to introduce a new Race Equality Act, which would allow equal pay claims based on ethnicity and disability, and introduce dual (or intersectional) discrimination.  These commitments were repeated in Labour’s Manifesto before last year’s election.
